Storm Damage Checklist
Visually assess your property for storm damage. Walk around the perimeter of the property and photograph or take note of any damage you see. Obvious signs of damage include missing roof shingles or tiles from wind and damage to roof vents, gutters, or window overhangs.
Check your gutters and downspouts for hail or shingle granules. If you notice any hail or roof granules at the end of your downspouts, this can be the first sign that you have roof damage. When your shingles are hit with hail, wind, or debris, it can cause your protective granules to slough off of your shingles, leaving them susceptible to water leaks.
Check your shingles for obvious signs of damage. Though your shingles may appear undamaged, hail impacting a roof can cause extensive damage that leads to more serious problems if left undetected. It takes a trained professional to make this assessment.
Look for signs of water leaks in your attic or upper floor ceilings. Even though your roof may appear undamaged from the outside, wind and hail may have caused leaks that can lead to problems later in your home’s interior.
